About Me
Hello! I’m Carl Gullacksen — a curious developer and entrepreneur with a passion for solving real-world problems through technology. My journey into coding began when I was expanding my business and struggled to find software that met my specific requirements and standards. Frustrated, I thought to myself, "There has to be a better way," and that’s when I started my journey as a programmer.
I’ve worked with a variety of technologies, including Java, JavaFX, Javalin, Thymeleaf, Docker, SQL, HTML, CSS, and some JavaScript and Python. I particularly enjoy working on innovative ideas that provide practical solutions, and I thrive on tackling challenges that require creative thinking.
When it comes to design, I believe it’s crucial to strike a balance between "clean" aesthetics and functionality. I believe that a great design is one that is intuitive and seamlessly fits the needs of the end user. I always prioritize the user experience to ensure the design aligns with both their needs and expectations.
My approach to work is highly organized, and I start by tackling the core requirements of a project. As I work, I often come up with new ideas that can be implemented later, always prioritizing the features that will bring the most value to the user. My attention to detail is one of my strengths, and I never stop until I’m completely satisfied with the results. In addition to my technical expertise, I bring a solid understanding of business, which enables me to identify what provides value to clients and stakeholders.
One of my current projects involves tracking local bike races, where riders and clubs can check rankings and statistics. I'm also working on a WooCommerce Point-Of-Sale (POS) plugin for physical stores, with a big backlog of features planned for future expansion. I have a concept for a "Crime Rate Map" similar to air quality maps, which could help people avoid high-crime areas when booking vacations or traveling.
I thrive in collaborative environments, where I can both inspire and be inspired by team members, bringing our collective strengths together to meet our goals.
Personal Interests
Outside of work, I’m an avid cyclist — I enjoy road cycling, mountain biking, cyclocross, and track cycling. Hiking in the mountains when I am on holiday is also one of my favorite activities. I also love discovering new places and cultures during my travels. Being active and exploring nature keeps me energized and inspires new perspectives that I bring to my professional work. Sometimes, I even find myself solving problems or cracking tough issues while out biking.
I’m passionate about exploring new fields, and one subject that particularly fascinates me is personalized medicine and genomic research. I find it exciting to think about the future of these areas and the potential they have to change the world and life of millions of patients each year.
